Five ways to welcome first-time guests
Know who's coming, greet them by name, and follow up before the week is out.

A first visit takes courage. Someone has found your parking lot, picked a door, and walked in not knowing a soul. The next hour shapes whether they come back.
None of this needs a big budget. It needs a little planning before they arrive and a little follow-through after they leave.
1. Let people tell you they're coming
Put a "Plan a visit" form on your website and in your app. It's a low-pressure way for someone to say "we'll be there Sunday," and it gives you a name, a family size, and maybe the ages of their kids.
Now someone can be ready at the door to say hello, by name.
2. Make the welcome desk easy to staff
The welcome desk shouldn't depend on one person who knows where the clipboard lives. Put a tablet there with a first-time guest form ready to go. In Culminate Life, the Community Portal App acts as a concierge at the desk, and every guest who fills in the form goes straight into your people records.
No retyping on Monday. No sticky notes lost in a drawer.
3. Don't make families wait at kids check-in
Families with children have the most to juggle on a first visit. If they've used Plan a Visit, you may already have their details. If not, a leader can add them in a minute, or they can do it on their own phone, and a temporary label gets the kids into their room.
The best welcome is the one where nobody has to wait.
4. Follow up before the week is out
A short, personal message on Monday or Tuesday says "we noticed you, and we're glad you came." Keep it simple:
- Thank them for visiting.
- Answer anything they asked about.
- Invite them to one next step, like a group or an event.
Because every guest is already in your people records, the person doing follow-up can see who came and when without chasing anyone for a list.
5. Give them a reason to open your app
A guest who downloads your app has a way to hear from you all week: announcements, events, groups, and sermons. Mention it at the welcome desk and in your follow-up message. It's the easiest way to keep a first visit from being the only one.
Put it together
A first visit, start to finish: a form on your website, a welcome desk that captures details once, kids' labels that don't hold anyone up, and a follow-up that arrives while the visit is still fresh.
